  • Engine Options

Who Packs the Most Powerful Punch?

Both the 2023 Nissan Armada and the 2023 Chevy Tahoe are strong vehicles powered by hearty engines. Powering the 2023 Nissan Armada is a standard 5.6L V8 engine that serves as a staple of the Armada lineup. This engine has shown itself to be a reliable powerhouse, delivering robust performance packed with plenty of horsepower and torque. This helps make it suitable for towing and hauling. This V8 engine is paired with a smooth-shifting seven-speed automatic transmission that contributes to the vehicle’s refined driving performance. Don't let its single engine fool you: the 5.6 V8 produces an impressive 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque.

The 2023 Chevy Tahoe is likewise powered by a standard V8. Its 5.3L V8 serves approximately 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. It strikes a decent enough balance between fuel economy and performance, making the Tahoe a popular choice among a diversity of buyers. This engine balances performance and fuel efficiency, making it a popular choice for a wide range of Tahoe buyers. Matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission, power delivery is effective.

A 6.2L V8 engine is also available for the Tahoe. It is relegated to higher trim levels and gives you a stronger performance with its 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Smooth gear shifts go unnoticed. Finally, there is a 3.0L turbodiesel engine available that caters more toward those who want low-end torque for heavier towing and who want slightly better fuel economy. With 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque on tap, this engine provides an efficient driving experience. Ultimately, what you're looking for in an engine depends entirely on what you plan to use it for. While the Tahoe offers variety, sometimes having a singular engine option makes things simpler, which is what you'll get with the Armada.

A Closer Look at Fuel Economy

Given its potent V8 engine, the 2023 Nissan Armada’s fuel economy is fairly standard for this class. This V8 earns an EPA-estimated 14 MPG in the city and 19 MPG on the highway. The Chevy Tahoe’s base V8 has a similar fuel economy: 14 MPG in the city and 20 MPG on the highway. Of course, the higher-powered V8 will knock these numbers down even further and will cost you more right off the bat, too. The Tahoe's diesel engine will also bump those numbers up to 21 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway, so if you're looking for noteworthy fuel economy for a full-size SUV, it'll cost you extra to upgrade; otherwise, the Armada's engine can give you decent efficiency without it having to cost extra.

  • Capabilities

    Robust Towing Capacities

Are you looking for strong towing capacity from a full-size SUV? If so, take comfort in knowing that the 2023 Nissan Armada can tow up to 8,500 lbs when properly equipped. This capacity is rather impressive, and it allows the Armada to handle a diverse range of towing jobs. You can easily tow a small trailer or even a huge recreation vehicle without any issues. The Tahoe is no slouch either, with the ability to tow up to 8,400 lbs when properly equipped. While this isn't a huge difference, if you're after strength, every pound counts.

    Available Towing Features

Towing is not an easy task, nor has it always been a secure one. Thankfully, these days, automakers realize the importance of including towing technologies. The Armada can be outfitted with a variety of towing enhancements that include helpful features such as a Brake Controller and Trailer Sway Control. The Brake Controller helps by providing more controlled and smoother braking while you are towing, while Trailer Sway Control stabilizes the trailer when performing sudden maneuvers or when the wind kicks up outside.

Like the Armada, the 2023 Chevy Tahoe has towing features that boost safety and elevate control while you tow, courtesy of the Advanced Trailering Package. An integrated Trailer Brake Control, Hitch Guidance with Hitch View, and Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert are some of the features included in the package. They can help manage your trailer’s movement and brakes to make the act of towing a lot more secure. However, there are not quite as many trailering-related features available on the Tahoe as there are on the Armada, so buyers have to make do with less.

  • Technology

The Armada Offers a Variety of Innovative Tech Features

Technology takes center stage inside the 2023 Nissan Armada, giving you plenty of ways to connect, be entertained, and stay informed. The touchscreen infotainment system comes with a sizable 12.3-inch display (the Tahoe has a smaller 8-inch one) with easy-to-read graphics and easy-to-follow interfaces. You will find a slew of standard features you can use: Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free phone calls and audio streaming, smartphone app integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and multiple USB ports. On some of the higher trim levels, you can get more enhanced tech features, including integrated navigation, a premium sound system, and a rear-seat entertainment system.

    The Tahoe's Available Features

Chevy likewise equips the Tahoe with a lot of helpful tech gadgets. The infotainment interface is user-friendly, and you can opt for wireless smartphone app integration. There are also options for a premium sound system that pumps out crisp sound. Passengers can stay entertained with the optional rear-seat entertainment system as well. The Armada has a slight edge over the Tahoe with its larger standard touchscreen, along with unique features like Voice Recognition and the available Alexa Built-In.

    Safety Features

Outfitted with a suite of advanced driver aids known as Nissan Safety Shield 360, the 2023 Nissan Armada includes Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, a Blind Spot Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Intelligent Cruise Control lets you set a safe driving distance between the Armada and the vehicle in front of it. Lane Departure Warning helps with drifting out of your lane on the highway, and the standard parking sensors are thorough at alerting you to obstacles in front of and behind the vehicle when you go to park. Upgrading to the higher trim levels gets you an intelligent Around View Monitor, and an Intelligent Rearview Mirror comes on the line-topping Platinum trim level.

Chevy amps up safety offerings on the 2023 Tahoe with the Chevy Safety Assist suite. Standard driver aids include Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, front and rear parking sensors, and Intellibeam Auto High Beam Assist. Unlike the Armada, Adaptive Cruise Control is not standard across the lineup, nor is Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert. If you buy the Premier trim, you can drop extra cash on the Advanced Technology package to get Super Cruise, Reverse Automatic Braking, and Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking.

  • Interior

The black and brown interior of a 2023 Nissan Armada Platinum shows the center console and dashboard.

The Armada Offers Luxury Without the Luxury Price Tag

Nissan delivers a luxurious vibe without the price tag normally associated with it. The 2023 Armada boasts multiple leather and simulated leather options, available heated and ventilated front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row seats, and available second-row captain’s chairs. The Chevy Tahoe has some nice design elements, but the cabin fails to stand out as being luxurious. The Tri-Zone Climate control system is incredibly effective, but the buttons up front are considerably small. Leather upholstery options are available, but if you want more creature comforts, you’ll have to spend more on the Luxury package for the LT, RST, or Z71 trims.

The Armada Has More Driver-Friendly Layout

The Armada serves up a spacious layout, and you can fold the third row of seats down to get more cargo space. There is a large center console that lets you store your valuables, and the captain’s chairs make it easy for you to access the third row. The captain’s chairs are known to be comfortable, with ample padding. The dashboard also has a nice, ergonomic setup that makes using the controls hassle-free.

The 2023 Tahoe is also functional enough, with doors that open out wide for easy access to the cabin. There is plenty of head space for those in the back, but the use of space isn’t exactly intuitive. In fact, the push-button shifter, mounted onto the dashboard, forces a lot of secondary controls into awkward positions that bunch them together. The audio system and infotainment touchscreen controls take up excessive space on the dash, and the controls mounted onto the steering wheel aren’t all that easy to use. To put it simply, the Tahoe's interior layout is unnecessarily complex when compared to the Armada.
