Is the Nissan Rogue Platinum or Chevy Equinox Premier the Better Affordable Luxury SUV?

Compact SUVs are popular among shoppers who want rugged features like all-wheel drive and increased ground clearance while maintaining fuel economy akin to a sedan’s. For many shoppers, the decision of what compact SUV to purchase comes down to the 2024 Nissan Rogue vs 2024 Chevy Equinox. Many shoppers today spend a good deal of time behind the wheel, so they’re looking for features that make their vehicle a true pleasure to be in. That’s why we’re going to specifically look at the two luxury trims of the Rogue and Equinox, which would be the Rogue Platinum and the Equinox Premier.
We’ve put together a side-by-side comparison of some of the upscale features of these two models to see which one will keep drivers the most comfortable and content on long drives. We ultimately determined that the Nissan Rogue has more to offer in its luxury trim. The two models have a good amount of overlap, but in the end, Nissan took some extra care to make the Rogue Platinum an exceptional luxury trim.
Infotainment and Technology
A truly great luxury trim should respond to and even predict your needs, get you the information you need when you need it, and keep you entertained. There are a few reasons we prefer the infotainment and technology of the Rogue Platinum to the Equinox Premier. The Rogue Platinum enjoys a massive 12.3-inch touchscreen where you’ll control your smartphone apps, view turn-by-turn directions, see incoming calls, and more. The Equinox Premier only has an eight-inch touchscreen. So you’ll enjoy more than four extra inches of screen on the Platinum, which means larger graphics and easier-to-see stats when you’re driving. By the way, the lowest Rogue trims already have an eight-inch screen, so the “small” Rogue screen is the same size as the Equinox’s large screen.
Both of these models have built-in navigation. However, only the Rogue enjoys Nissan’s popular door-to-door navigation. It allows you to send your route to your smartphone, and once you park, continue to receive directions on foot until you reach your destination. So your Rogue keeps guiding you, even when you’ve exited the vehicle.
If you enjoy getting your morning news on the road, listening to audiobooks, or setting the vibe with music, you’ll love that both models get a Bose audio system. However, while the Equinox Premier only has seven speakers, the Rogue Platinum has 10 speakers. Given that these are five-seat vehicles, that means there are two speakers per passenger in the Rogue for a true surround-sound listening experience.
Busy individuals like having smart assistants in their vehicles. They’re great for doing tasks like adding items to shopping lists, adding activities to calendars, checking the traffic, and looking up information on the go. Today, the two most commonly used smart systems are Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. And no matter which one you’re most accustomed to, you can find it in the Rogue Platinum. The Equinox Premier, however, only has Amazon Alexa available. So, if you’re most comfortable with Google Assistant, you’ll want to go with the Rogue Platinum.

Comfort and Atmosphere
Next, let’s look at the features that allow you to get comfortable and create an enjoyable atmosphere. Thanks to their dual-panel moonroofs, you can open up the roof and let the natural light in with either model. However, do note that while this feature comes standard on the Rogue Platinum, it’s only available as an add-on at an additional cost for the Equinox Premier.
You’ll easily get comfortable in the driver’s seat of either model, as both have an eight-way adjustable driver’s seat, along with power lumbar support to protect the sensitive lower back region. Additionally, both have heated front seats to provide you and your front passenger with full-body warmth on cold days. Plus, you can keep your hands warm and flexible as the driver, thanks to the standard heated steering wheel. Heated rear seats are available as an add-on in either model for those who want to spoil backseat passengers.
If you want to keep your hands on the wheel while changing your music, you’ll find steering wheel-mounted controls on either model. However, only the Rogue Platinum adds illumination to these controls, making it easy to locate them in the dark. The Rogue also trumps the Equinox due to its speed-sensitive volume. It will automatically increase the volume of your audio media when you’re traveling at high speeds to compensate for road noise and reduce the volume at low speeds to help you be a considerate driver in school districts and neighborhoods.
Want the power to create the perfect cabin climate before you even get in the vehicle? You’ll find remote start functionality on both models. This allows you to start your ignition before you’re in your vehicle, which will also activate the automatic climate control. So, on hot days, you don’t have to suffer sliding onto a sticky, piping-hot seat, and on cold days, you don’t need to shiver in a freezing cold cabin. You can create the climate you want while you’re still in your home or office, sipping your coffee and packing your bags.
Cargo and Accessibility
Can’t stand fumbling around in your bag for your keys when you need to open the car door? Both models have keyless open. So long as your keyfob is on your person, the vehicle will sense it and automatically unlock the car doors for you. So you don’t need to put your belongings on the roof to get your keys and risk leaving them there when you drive off (we’ve all been that person at some point).
Accessing the cargo area is easy thanks to the hands-free power liftgates you can get on either model. With the hands-free liftgates, you just have to kick your foot beneath the bumper, and the trunk will open automatically. So when your hands are full, and you can’t manually open the trunk, you’re covered.
