With tremendous safety systems, remarkable interior features, and plenty of room to stretch out, the Nissan Sentra is a fantastic compact car. We love getting these kinds of questions because they show how much our customers care about their cars, and they give us a chance to brag about the Nissan lineup. Even when you look at the 2026 Nissan Sentra vs 2026 Toyota Corolla, you can see that Nissan has worked hard to make the all-new 2026 model better than ever before. The Sentra offers terrific safety features, earning recognition for its safe design, and delivers interior tech that takes your daily drive to the next level. But you don’t have to just take our word for it. Let’s see what this stylish car has to offer.

Nissan Delivers Remarkable Safety Tech

There’s a lot we love about the 2026 Sentra, but few things stand out to us as much as how well it can help protect you on the road. With the latest version of the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite of driver-assistance features, the Sentra delivers remarkable standard features and gives you more to choose from. To start, every Sentra comes with Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, a Blind Spot Warning, and a Rear Cross Traffic Alert. You also get Rear Automatic Braking, a Lane Departure Warning, and High Beam Assist to help you avoid blinding other drivers in oncoming traffic. The Toyota Corolla offers some of these features, too, but lacks the rear protection that the Nissan offers.

With Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist system, you get a combination of Intelligent Cruise Control and Steering Assist that makes daily driving easier, more relaxing, and safer. There’s even an HD Intelligent Around View Monitor available that provides a high-resolution virtual bird’s-eye view of the area around your vehicle for added safety when you’re maneuvering at low speeds. The Corolla also has some excellent features, but we don’t find something like the Intelligent Around View Monitor you can get with the Sentra, which is a big oversight.

Nissan Safety: Tested and Awarded

We love seeing innovative safety technology in vehicles these days, since anything that protects folks on the road is great. Beyond these pieces of tech, however, a car has to be designed from the wheels up to be as safe as possible and protect you while you’re driving. Responsive handling, impressive brakes, and advanced driver-assistance features are all terrific, but what about when the worst happens, and you find yourself in a collision? That’s when you want a car that is designed to protect you—a car like the 2026 Nissan Sentra.

It’s not just us saying that the Sentra is more impressive than ever before. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) agrees with us, at least as far as safety goes. The IIHS evaluates vehicles each year by subjecting them to crash tests and other procedures to determine how well they protect drivers. Those that do well earn a Top Safety Pick rating. Vehicles with especially noteworthy designs and exceptional protection earn a Top Safety Pick+ rating, the highest honor from the IIHS.

The 2026 Nissan Sentra has officially been awarded a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS, demonstrating how well it has been engineered and designed to protect you if the unthinkable happens. Some other compact cars, like the Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra, have earned a Top Safety Pick rating, but failed to grab that extra plus. At this time, the IIHS hasn’t awarded the 2026 Toyota Corolla with any rating. Looking back, the 2024 and 2025 Corolla models earned a Top Safety Pick, but still fall short of what the 2026 Sentra has secured as one of the safest small cars on the road.

Terrific Features Inside

As important as safety is to us, it’s not the only thing that matters when looking for a vehicle, nor is it the only reason the all-new Sentra is so fantastic. Since most of your time with a vehicle is spent actually driving, you want a car with great features inside to enjoy every day. Nissan understands this well, which is why the 2026 Sentra has an incredible range of standard and available features for you to enjoy. The Toyota Corolla has plenty of good stuff, but it comes up short in some key ways when compared.

Looking inside the 2026 Sentra, we find a gorgeous 12.3-inch NissanConnect infotainment system that looks absolutely stunning across all models. Although a seven-inch Advanced Drive-Assist display is standard for the instrument cluster, there’s an available 12.3-inch Multi-function information display that’s definitely the way to go. These two large screens come together to form a panoramic monolith display that makes important information easy to see, with haptic touch controls that are simple to use while keeping your eyes on the road. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support is standard, with available features including a fantastic Bose Premium sound system, a wireless charging pad, and more.

Inside the 2026 Corolla, Toyota has some nice offerings, but they also fall behind what Nissan gives you in some notable ways. Up front, you’ll notice that the Corolla comes with a standard eight-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia display, a far cry from the beautiful NissanConnect screen found in the Sentra. What’s more, the available upgrade for the Corolla is a 10.5-inch screen. One can pay more for a higher-trim Corolla and still get a smaller display than what comes standard in every 2026 Nissan Sentra. Other upgrades, like a JBL sound system, are nice, but we still prefer what the Sentra offers.

A Spacious Interior

The remarkable tech features you find inside the Sentra are only the beginning. Nissan also gives you more room inside. Both the Sentra and Corolla are compact cars, but that doesn’t mean you should settle for something that feels cramped or claustrophobic as you drive. In the Sentra, you get more room to take advantage of in a couple of key ways that can have a big impact on your overall experience each day.

For starters, you get 14.3 cu.ft. of interior cargo volume with the Sentra, giving you plenty of room to load up with the stuff you need to take with you. Inside the Toyota Corolla, we find just 13.1 cu.ft. of interior cargo volume, which is enough of a difference to be noticeable when piling grocery bags or luggage into your car. While the Corolla has 42 inches of legroom up front, Nissan tops that by giving you 44 inches of front legroom. This means you can stretch out more and be comfortable in the Sentra while also taking advantage of superior cargo space, letting you get more done and enjoy every moment as you drive.

See What the All-New Sentra Can Do

We would never say the Toyota Corolla is a bad car, and it has plenty of impressive features in its own right. However, you can see that it just doesn’t keep up with what Nissan delivers. The all-new 2026 Sentra is a bold, new vision of what a compact sedan can be, with a dazzling combination of innovative technology, remarkable safety features, and more. This year, the Sentra is better than ever, making it clear that Nissan knows what drivers want in a fantastic car. If you’re ready to see everything the all-new Sentra has to offer, then we’re here at Illini Nissan to show you what it brings to the road.
